The role
The client seeks a part-time Full Stack Engineer to act as a trusted backup to a senior engineer, ensuring continuity, reliability, and high-quality delivery. The role involves maintaining system stability, performing second-line code reviews, safeguarding data security, and supporting critical company configurations—within agreed SLAs.
You’ll work on a digital health platform focused on cancer screening and early detection, improving access, uptake, and patient experience. Accuracy, reliability, and security are paramount.
Responsibilities
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the codebase, infrastructure, and roadmap.
- Perform second-line code reviews for sensitive or high-impact deployments.
- Provide technical coverage and resolutions during critical incidents (within business hours).
- Ensure system architecture and data models meet security and integrity standards.
- Assist with onboarding and urgent company/product configurations.
- Collaborate with PMs, designers, and developers on releases and change management.
- Help maintain a low bug-to-deployment ratio as system complexity grows.
Tech stack
- Frontend: React.js, Tailwind CSS, Radix UI
- Backend: Node.js, Express, Remix, Prisma, SQLite
- Infra/DevOps: Azure (roadmap), Linux (Ubuntu), Docker
- PaaS (near-term need): Experience with modern PaaS such as Heroku, Railway, or Render is strongly preferred in the short term.
- Strong backend and architecture skills; security-conscious engineering mindset.
- Experience working to SLAs or in mission-critical support environments is valued.
Qualifications & experience
- Proven full-stack experience delivering production systems with the stack above (or close equivalents).
- Demonstrable strength in backend architecture, reliability, and secure data handling.
- Hands-on with incident response, code review, and change/release processes.
- Comfortable in Linux/Docker environments; understanding of cloud-native practices.
- Bonus: Prior experience in digital health, regulated environments, or data privacy frameworks.
- Bonus: Azure experience for future migration.
Engagement details
- Contract: Fixed-term, 6 months (potential to extend).
- Time commitment: Part-time — minimum 1 day per month, up to 3 days per month when covering incidents.
- Availability: Flexible, with some overlap in core business hours with the senior engineer; dependent on any critical issues to resolve (within business hours only).
- Location: Remote (anywhere).
