Technical QA Engineer (Contract / Ad Hoc)

Overview:
The client seeks an experienced and technically capable QA Engineer to support ongoing development efforts on a mature Drupal-based codebase. This role is vital to ensuring confidence in deploying critical CMS updates and maintaining test coverage as new features and updates are introduced. The QA Engineer will be expected to work collaboratively with the client’s team, primarily between 5–9 PM (timezone to be clarified), with flexibility around a mostly ad hoc workflow.
Key Responsibilities:
• Execute and maintain automated test suites using tools such as Cypress and Backstop.js
• Support CI/CD integration through CircleCI for test automation
• Review and run existing PHP-based backend and frontend tests within a Drupal environment
• Respond to QA tickets on an as-needed basis
• Build new automated tests over time to ensure growing coverage across the platform
• Act as a quality gatekeeper, especially during CMS update cycles
Qualifications:
• Proven experience with test automation frameworks, particularly Cypress and Backstop.js
• Hands-on experience with CircleCI for integrating automated testing pipelines
• Familiarity with Drupal and PHP testing frameworks
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Availability for evening work hours (between 5–9 PM; specific time zone to be confirmed)
• Excellent communication and documentation skills
Nice to Have:
• Experience with visual regression testing tools
• Background in CMS or content-heavy platforms
• Exposure to agile workflows and working within ticket-based systems
Engagement Details:
This is an ad hoc remote contract opportunity, ideal for a freelance QA professional or someone seeking supplemental work. While the initial scope is flexible and possibly minimal, there is potential for an expanded role depending on how the client’s internal needs evolve.
