Senior Tech Lead & Architect — Open edX (Remote — Anywhere)

The client seeks an experienced Senior / Lead Tech Lead & Architect to guide the design and delivery of a lean enterprise Open edX platform supporting both B2C and B2B use cases. This role focuses on ensuring architectural integrity, orchestrating integrations, and providing technical oversight throughout the build and launch phases.

The position is remote (anywhere) and will be delivered on a part-time basis (15 days total).

Project Context

The client is undertaking a focused initiative to deliver a streamlined Open edX deployment that includes:

• B2C + B2B learning pathways

• Single Sign-On (SSO) and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

• Stripe-based payments

• Licensing and entitlement workflows

• Reporting capabilities

• Go-live readiness and productionisation

• Ramp-up: 8–19 December 2025

Role Overview

The role involves providing architectural leadership, technical decision-making, and delivery oversight across the Open edX platform build. The Tech Lead/Architect will act as a senior technical partner to the client’s product and delivery team, ensuring the solution is scalable, secure, and aligned with modern best practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and validate the overall Open edX architecture, including module selection, extensions, and customisation approaches.

• Lead the design of SSO/MFA identity flows, advising on best-practice identity federation patterns.

• Oversee Stripe integration and related payment orchestration.

• Shape the licensing and access-control model, ensuring B2C and B2B requirements are met.

• Guide the design of reporting structures, analytics flows, and operational dashboards.

• Provide delivery oversight, conducting technical reviews, risk assessments, and solution validation.

• Collaborate closely with developers, product leads, and stakeholders to ensure architectural coherence and timely progress.

• Support go-live preparation, performance considerations, and production readiness activities.

Required Skills & Experience

• Deep experience with Open edX platform architecture and extension patterns.

• Strong proficiency in AWS infrastructure design, security, and deployment models.

• Expertise in identity, SSO, and MFA patterns (SAML, OAuth2/OIDC, SCIM advantageous).

• Strong background in integration architecture and systems design.

• Demonstrated ability to provide senior-level technical leadership and delivery governance.

• Experience operating as a Lead or Principal Engineer/Architect on complex platform builds.
