About the Role


The client seeks an experienced Tandem Developer with strong expertise in SCOBOL and COBOL85 to join a dedicated development team supporting a long-standing enterprise system. The successful candidate will join a group of four developers working on the SOLD application, an in-house platform with over 40 years of operational history that underpins key dealing and accounting functions.


This role involves sustaining, enhancing, and modernizing a mission-critical system while ensuring stability across both intra-day and overnight processes. The developer will play a key role in maintaining the reliability and performance of the application while progressively introducing improvements aligned with modernization goals.



Key Responsibilities


  • Develop, maintain, and enhance programs written in SCOBOL and COBOL85 within a Tandem (HP NonStop) environment.
  • Collaborate with the client’s internal technical and operations teams to ensure consistent system stability and performance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, particularly around overnight batch processing.
  • Participate in enhancement projects aimed at modernizing the existing application architecture.
  • Work closely with other members of the development team to share knowledge and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.
  • Support ongoing testing, deployment, and documentation activities to maintain system integrity and traceability.



Required Skills & Experience


  • Proven hands-on experience in SCOBOL and COBOL85 programming.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a Tandem (HP NonStop) environment.
  • Strong understanding of legacy system maintenance, data flows, and batch processing.
  • Ability to work effectively within a distributed team supporting a long-established enterprise platform.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and an analytical approach to identifying and resolving issues.
  • Strong communication skills and a proactive mindset when interacting with client stakeholders.



Preferred Qualifications


  • Previous experience supporting or modernizing financial systems.
  • Familiarity with banking or accounting-related applications.
  • Ability to work independently while managing complex technical requirements.



Engagement Details


  • Contract Duration: 2 years (104 weeks / 521 days).
  • Work Schedule: Full-time.
  • Location: Remote (anywhere), ideally based in India.
  • Onboarding: Preferred availability to attend the Pune office up to 2 days per week during the initial onboarding months to accelerate familiarization, after which the position will transition to fully remote (5 days per week).
  • Interview Process: The client’s technical interview will include scenario-based questions designed to assess practical experience and problem-solving approaches within a Tandem development environment.
